Letters to the Editor: Prop. 54 opponents making bogus point

Regarding “Prop. 54: Reform or sham?” (Aug. 11): The bill description reads, “Prohibits the legislature from passing any bill until it has been in print and published on the internet for 72 hours prior to the vote.”

Among other things, the opposition claims that the proposition “would tie up the Legislature in knots by requiring an avalanche of new paperwork.” Huh? How many keystrokes does it take to copy a bill onto the internet?

What I believe the proposition does do is stop last-minute legislative changes in bills thus allowing me (and other non-politicos) to read the bill and weigh in to our legislators. What’s wrong with that?
