Prop. 54 Leads the Pack in Newspaper Endorsements

September 28, 2016 – According to the latest California Initiative Editorial Scorecard, Prop. 54 leads all statewide ballot initiatives in newspaper endorsements.  The California Initiative Editorial Scorecard compiles endorsements from Californian’s top 20 newspapers based on circulation and calculates a score for each ballot initiative. So far, Prop. 54 leads all ballot initiatives with eight “Yes” endorsements from the top 20 newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, Mercury News, San Diego Union-Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, East Bay Times, Sacramento Bee, Santa Rosa Press-Democrat and the Bakersfield Californian.

Prop. 54 has also received endorsements from the Ventura County Star, Monterey Herald, Santa Clarita Valley Signal, Los Angeles City Watch, Idyllwild Town Crier and the Trinity Journal.

Prop. 54 will require all legislation to be in print and publicly posted online in its final form at least 72 hours before it may pass out of either house of the State Legislature, require the legislature to record all public hearings and post recordings online within 24 hours, and give the public the right to record public proceedings.
