Sunlight Foundation, Demand Progress and the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council Endorse Prop. 54
October 25, 2016 – The Sunlight Foundation, Demand Progress and the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council have announced their endorsements of Prop. 54, joining a large bipartisan coalition of organizations and individuals in support of Proposition 54, a statewide initiative on the November 2016 ballot that will rein in the power of special interests and give voters a stronger voice in the State Legislature.
“California’s public deserves an opportunity to see all bills that come before its legislature and a stronger right to see how decisions get made. Prop 54 will require California to provide greater public access to its lawmaking process,” said Emily Shaw, Senior Analyst of the Sunlight Foundation. As an organization which seeks to make government and politics more accountable and transparent, the Sunlight Foundation supports Prop 54.”
Proposition 54 will require all legislation to be in print and publicly posted online in its final form at least 72 hours before it may pass out of either house of the State Legislature, require all open legislative meetings to be audiovisual recorded and posted online within 24 hours, and grant all individuals the right to record and share videos of public legislative proceedings.
